Oricand va puteti lua 1-2 zile de concediu in timpul saptamanii, nu-i asa? Eu am renuntat sa mai  merg in locuri publice care devin foarte aglomerate exact in week-end. Drept urmare, ma desfasor in timpul saptamanii, imi strecor “mici escapade” printre activitatile cotidiene.

5 ways to cope with summer heat

We wanted summer, we got summer! 35 degrees, plus 5 more from the concrete, because that’s how it is in the Capital… Life is hard, right? What I noticed over time and it really annoys me is the Romanian people’s weepy nature (or is it of people in general?), who – regardless of the season or weather forecast – are unhappy. If it’s cold, windy and raining – “can we have summer already?”, when summer finally arrives – “God, we can’t stand this heat”. Instead of enjoying nature and things that are natural… they just stand there feeling sorry for themselves. I could quibble long and hard on this issue, but today I actually want to talk about what we can do when it’s very hot outside, because in some cases our brains are downright melting and the conclusion is that there is nothing we can do. Somewhat true, I admit… But let’s see what the options are:

  • If you have a flexible schedule, you have more options, obviously. If you are full-time employees it’s harder, but not impossible. You can take 1-2 days off anytime during the week, right? I gave up going to public places that become very crowded during the weekend. Therefore, I’m carrying out things during the week, and sneak “little escapades” in my daily scurry.
  • My favorites are 1-day escapades in the country! Whether it’s the mountains, at the sea side or pool, in plains or the city’s surroundings, they are all welcome and feel like a well-deserved breath of fresh air! Ok, in my case, I combine business with pleasure, since I usually go and take pictures of others or myself, and each time I come back with my batteries fully charged. 🙂
  • In order to avoid being zombies all day and lack motivation to do anything, I recommend at least 15 minutes of physical exercise in the morning. My routine is the following: after I wake up, I drink a glass of warm water with lemon or a fruit or vegetable fresh juice. Then I make some sort of warm-up, enough to wake up, but without crashing due to effort. I let 15-20 minutes pass, and only after that I sit down and eat a hearty breakfast. I can assure you that this way you will have even more energy during the day!
  • That thing with “stay inside when the sun is too hot” doesn’t really work, at least not for me… given that it’s so hot right until the sunset, that would mean I can only go out at night, like a vampire. So, rule no. 1: Prepare yourselves properly! No make-up, loose clothes, hair in a bun, no bra :), and the daily equipment (“day bag”), in addition to the bare minimum – wallet, phone, keys, etc. should also include a mini-kit with: dry and moist napkins, a thermal water spray, a mini-deodorant, a comb, elastic hair bands, anti-bug spray, band-aids, etc. And a bottle of water at room temperature. It’s not healthy to drink cold water when it’s very hot outside, just saying. And at least 2 liters per day, ok?
  •  Evenings are not for coming home tired from work and falling asleep on the couch… On the contrary, only then we can go out feeling more relaxed, without the risk of having a heatstroke. My recommendations: a walk in the park by foot or on bike, going out with friends, summer theaters, concerts, and this way another hot day goes by in which we are extremely productive!

PS: I want you to be active! So I’m curious what are your best ways to deal with hot summer days! Suggestions, ideas, they are all welcome! 🙂
