Day 1. Cannes

Cannes is the first city we saw in our short trip on the Cote d’Azur. On our way to the hotel I had a strong déjà-vu feeling. I had the pleasure to visit this wonderful city 6 years ago, during the Film Festival, when I was officially part of the Romanian media. But in the hustle and bustle of the event, I didn’t have the time to truly enjoy everything that this small but fabulous city has to offer. After a quick check-in at the Hotel Montaigne Spa, we went straight to the Croisette, where we were going to have lunch. I personally admit that I was very eager to capture a few snapshots, so that I can later remain calm at the table, without any stress that a small storm might come upon us.

In sfarsit vine si felul principal, iepure rumenit in nush stiu ce, cu piure 🙂 Delicios!

After finally arriving at the JW Grill restaurant, we personally meet the group coordinator, Gordana, and the team is complete. We trade stories and try to get to know each other better. Our guide to Cannes, Karin, tells us a few stories about the Lerins archipelago, while we check our phones to make sure that the pictures were successfully uploaded on Instagram. Finally, the main course arrives, rabbit roasted in something and purée. 🙂 Delicious!

What I actually wanted to say is that one of the things that impressed me the most about this area of France is the gastronomy, and the dining style of the locals. Small and chic restaurants, hidden from the large boulevards are actually the places with the best food. We were convinced of this at the dinner in the same day, which took place at Maître Renard, the tiniest restaurant I ever saw. Within maximum 5 meters of the table we were able to see chef Renard in action, and at the end of dinner he came to meet us and to make sure that we were fully satisfied with the food.

LAUNCH

Of course the afternoon rain had to begin exactly when we were supposed to walk to the old city center. But even if it was dripping, this didn’t diminished the charm of the winding streets, on the contrary – there weren’t that many people, and we were able to admire every detail, because every building in Cannes seems to tell a story. For example, this wall of the bus station, the city’s ground zero. Each of the multiple paintings illustrates a period of the universal cinematography, and scenes in famous films. Cannes, considered the European capital of cinematography is one of the most fascinating destinations in Southern France and not only because of the events that take place here.

The most beautiful 360° view over the city of Cannes can be admired from the tower of the Castre Museum, Mont Chevalier, whose building is situated in the old Cannes Castle. On the east side you can admire a large part of the city in all its glory: Promenade de la Croisette, the old port with its luxury boats, Palais des Festivals, where the famous Cannes  Film Festival is annually held, and Le Suquet, the old town center.

Don’t miss it!

I would say that just one day is not enough to quietly enjoy this little pearl of the Cote d’Azur, but on the other hand, if I think about it, we managed to see enough beautiful places, to enjoy an authentic foie gras, to tell so many stories and to constantly update our social media channels. You are aware that besides Facebook and Instagram, I am recently very active (and very sincere) on Snapchat, right? You are welcome @postolatieva.

PS: The Cote d’Azur series continues with two other great cities: Antibes and Nice. Don’t miss it!

Special thanks : Atout France / Tarom / Cannes Tourist Office
